The image that appears below is the schematic of a conventional RS232 - TTL interface with some extras...

This is one of the ways to build an interface between an ericsson 6xx/7xx phone and a PC serial port. This particular interface uses the phone battery as a power supply, another way to do another kind of interface is desiging a circuit wich gets power from the PC serial port, but such an interface would have more components and wouldn't be as safe as this one, because getting power from the serial port is a little risky.

This interface is needed to connect the phone to a PC, because the PC's serial port works with voltage levels between -12 and 12V (RS232 protocol) and the phone operates between 0 and 5V (TTL protocol). Don't even think in conecting your phone directly to the serial port, this would certainly damage your phone and/or the PC serial port!!!

The interface main component is IC1 - MAX232, a common IC in RS232 - TTL interfaces, with some external components wich are needed for the IC to work correctly. The main difference between this and other interfaces is the S1 switch and the phone System Connector. To get more info about the System connector, like pin.out, go to the pin-out page. The most difficult thing to get for this interface is the system connector plug, maybe you can get one from a ciggaret lighter adapter, you only have to make the connections...

About the S1 switch, it is only to select normal or test/flash operation. With the switch turned off, the phone operates in normal mode, if turned on, the phone works in test/flash mode. In normal operation the interface is ignored by the phone - it's just like if it wasn't there connected; in test/flash mode, the phone sends debug messages to the PC through the interface, telling it what is happening, like dialling, etc... - this mode is also used in flash mode, wich is a mode to upgrade the phone firmware, with help from a flasher program made by ericsson. It's in this mode that someone can send the test.bin and other file to put the phone in Service Program mode, wich is very useful to manage some interesting tasks, like clearing electronic lock, change IMEI, etc... - more on this later...

Soon you'll find here info on how to put 6xx/7xx in SP mode and all the available commands - check this site often for updates...

I came across a great new e-mail I want to share with you.

1on1lite is a new email service that is completely FREE but offers a whole range of great benefits that no one else does. I get so irritated with email that bounces or simply disappears into cyberspace.

Well
1on1lite is different. What is so great about 1on1lite is that it guarantees delivery. Why shouldn't email be reliable? 1on1lite tracks each message and tells you exactly when each message has arrived and when it gets read. That is 100% certification and is how I think email should be.

I don't know about you, but sometimes I write things in email that might cause some problems or at the very least embarrassment if someone else read it.
1on1lite also uses the most powerful encryption on the Internet (2048 bit) so as to give your messages complete confidentiality. Only the person you send it to can read it. In fact there are no copies of your message kept anywhere other than you and the person you send it to.1on1lite is the only email that does that.

It's also a really neat piece of software, simple to use and handles a bit like ICQ. It sits quietly on your task bar checking for email at intervals when you are online and tells you as soon as mail is waiting. Don't be fooled by how simple it is to use.
1on1lite is not a toy, it is the most powerful secure email client full of fascinating features like "For your eyes only" and "Automatic shredder". Sounds a bit like James Bond doesn't it? You can use it to send ordinary email as well but as soon as the person you send that ordinary email to picks up their own copy of 1on1lite, it upgrades the two of you into a private secure channel of communication. Nothing else you need to do. Its a no brainer.

Take my advice, go and download a copy and see for yourself,
1on1lite is completely Free and you will love it.
